Brain Bowl Team Improves with a National Championship Tournament Sixth Place Win

Bradenton, Fla. Jun. 5, 2024

(Bradenton, Fla., June 5, 2024) — The ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Brain Bowl team finished sixth place overall at the National Academic Quiz Tournaments 2024 Community College Championship Tournament in Rosemont, Illinois earlier this year. ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø was one of 23 teams that competed. They climbed up to sixth place this year from seventh place last year and were awarded individual medals and a team trophy.

The team earned this outstanding achievement despite several challenging conditions they faced, including a required forfeit of the first round of competition due to a four-hour flight delay to Rosemont, a must win extra tie-breaker round to make the playoffs (because of the forfeit), and a must win playoff tie-breaker round to secure the sixth-place finish and a trophy.

Team captain Ursula Kushner and team members Addison Wiggins and Tracy Truong participated in the tournament. Kushner also received an All-Star award medal as the second-highest scoring individual player this year compared to her last year’s number-one ranking. The ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Brain Bowl team is led by co-advisors Rodger Tornai, Rose Aragao, Kathleen Gibson-Dee, and Justin McDonald. Dr. Carol Probstfeld, ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø president, and Aragao and McDonald, the team’s coaches, attended this year’s competition.

Dr. Probstfeld congratulated the team after their tremendous accomplishment. “I am so happy for and proud of you,” Probstfeld said. “You overcame the forfeit with style and grace.â€
