Staff Spotlight: Meet Kenisha, Managing Employment and Employee Operations

Kenisha Roney was born in Rochester, New York, and moved with her family to Bradenton at age eight. She grew up in Bradenton, graduated from Southeast High School and became a first-generation college student.

Roney started her higher education journey at Florida State University and Manatee Community College (now ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, Manatee-Sarasota). She continued further and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Government from the University of South Florida in Tampa and a Master of Public Administration degree from Strayer University.

Roney is proud to have completed her degree programs while balancing marriage, family and career. She worked in education and human resources positions in the Tampa area before joining ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø.

Serving Proudly at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø

As an ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø student, Roney felt seen, understood and accepted. Her ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø experience motivated her to return home to Bradenton and reengage in higher education at an institution that offers others a similar sense of belonging.

Roney joined ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø as the talent acquisition coordinator in July 2021 and was promoted to senior manager, human resources, in November 2023. She oversees talent acquisition, employee engagement and performance management.

As an ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø employee, Roney values the college’s commitment to community service, student success and employee well-being.

Honoring Excellence at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø

Being part of an institution that invests in its people is an honor for Roney. She respects ºÚÁϳԹÏ꿉۪s dedication to helping employees feel valued and supported. The college offers a healthy work-life balance, service milestone celebrations, employee appreciation events, professional development programs and other benefits.

Roney appreciates the opportunities for professional growth at the college. ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø President Emeritus Dr. Carol F. Probstfeld selected Roney to participate in the Leadership Manatee Class of 2023–24. In 2025, Roney earned the Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification.

Like her big sister, Roney strives to become the best version of herself professionally and personally. She is inspired by her strength, determination, generosity and growth.

Life Outside of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø

In her free time, Roney loves traveling, especially going on cruises. Her favorite travel experience was her first solo trip to the U.S. Virgin Islands, St. Thomas and St. John, where she found it freeing to jump off a boat into the ocean and observe the beautiful sea life up close. She also enjoys live music, Broadway musicals, dancing and hosting friends and family.
